Timeless Native, the favorite in a 11 horse field, was well placed from the start and rallied well to win by 1 1/2 lengths over longshot Five Percent.
Five Percent came on the outside strongly. Defending champion All Sold Out was third. Second favorite Dave's Friend was away last and trailed throughout to finish last. .

Timeless Native, winner of the Ak-Sar-Ben Handicap earlier in the year, vied for the lead from the start.
Pron Regard bore out leaving the gate, then came over on Win Stat in the final turn. Pron Regard was disqualified and placed sixth for the infractions. Inevitable Leader found his
way along the inside. Wild Again, the slight favorite, was forced to race on the outside throughout and hung in the drive.

Hawksworth Farms' TIMELESS NATIVE, while making only two appearances at Ak-sar-ben in 1984, made the most of them as he earned $150,000
for his winning efforts.
The fine 4 year old, trained by "Bud" Delp was the first horse in Ak-sar-ben history to win two $100,000 plus Stakes in the same meet! And he showed his versatility, too, as he won the six furlong Ak-sar-ben Handicap and the 1 1/8 mile Cornhusker Handicap.
For his efforts, Timeless Native was named Horse of the Year, as well as Sprinter of the Year AND Older Horse of the Year.

Longhot Rinley Rinley, moved up early along the inside, then finished strongly to win by a head.
Paradies forced the pace from the outside but tired down the stretch. The rider on heavily favored Bersid claimed a foul against Paradies for alleged interference at the quarter pole. The claim was disallowed. Bersid had good speed from the start,
then her rider stood momentarily at the quarter pole.

Gate Dancer, part of the heavily favored Van Berg 3 horse entry, was allowed to settle into stride early, moved up with a rush on the final turn, then moved off to win easily. The rider on
Imp Society, Pat Day, claimed fould against the winner for alleged interference entering the stretch, but it was disallowed. Imp Society was bumped at the start, then was well placed to the stretch where he hit the rail
turning for the wire. Wing Flyer came on well in the late running but was not good enough.

Ten Bid was sent to an early lead, then showed courage in the drive to hold off Native Satan.
Natan Satan was well placed, moved to the leader in the stretch, then hung. Illaka came on well in the late running but could not reach the top two. Favorite Gene's Lady finished fourth.

May 1st--Charging Falls, in his first career start, wins the first race of the year. He later goes on to run at Hollywood Park in the Breeders'
Cup Sprint. Imp Society, in his first Ak-sar-ben start, wins an allowance race by 1/2 length. He will go on to esatblish himself as the best 3 yr. old on the grounds...and become an outstanding 4 yr. old.
Ak-Pic-Six wagering is introduced. No one picks all 6 winners...or even 5 winners. 34 people picked 4 winners and won $167 each.
The opening day crownd of 18,241 wagered $1,831,333.
May 2nd--The Ak-Pic-Six was won as 1 person collects $37,288.
May 9th--Misnan finishes 2nd in her season debut. She later will be named 2 year old of the year.
May 10th--The daily double, #8 & 11, John Lewis ($133.40) to Old 'n Bold ($9.20) returns the highest D.D. payoff of the meet---$937.20.
May 12th--Dariboon wins a 4 1/2 furlong allowance by 8 1/2 lengths in :53 seconds, the fastest time for the distance this meeting.
Imp Society wins the Ambassadors'-it is to be the 1st of 4 consecutive Stakes wins.
The D.D. #4-5, Everymanawildcat($3.40) to Dugan Doneit($4.60) returns the lowest payoff of the year--$9.80.
May 18th--Price Merlin returns the highest show price of the meet ($30.20) in a $8,500 claiming race going off at 50.70 to 1.
May 24th--The largest single Ak-Pic-Six pot is won as one person picks all 6 winners and collects $255,444!!!
May 26th--Two-time Ak-sar-ben horse of the year, Bersid makes her first 1984 appearance to win the A.C.E. by 3 lengths
May 28th--Timeless Native, the 1983 Omaha Gold Cup winner, is victorious in the $100,000 guaranteed Ak-Sar-Ben Handicap by 1 1/2 lengths.
A crowd of 31,415, (4th largest in Ak-sar-ben history) wagers $3,167,161, (6th largest in Ak-sar-ben history), both records for a Memorial day.
May 31st--Permanent Turn finishes 2nd in a maiden special weight race and returns $101.20, the highest place price of the meet.
June 2nd--Imp Society proves to doubters that he can run a distance of ground as he wins the His Majesty's Council Stakes.
June 8th--Doctor Dick makes an impressive debut, winnng a 5 furlong maiden race by 4 1/2 lengths. He later goes on to be named 2 year old colt of the year (tie wih Bionic Light).
June 9th--Bersid wins the Goldenrod, going of at .30 to 1, the lowest price of the meet ($2.60) She wins by 8 lengths. A total of $144,959 is
wagered on Bersid.
June 15th--The 1985 Eclipse winning rider Pat Day rode Kyles Smile to a last place finish in the Good Life Stakes. Hurri Word shipped in from Chicago and won the race.
June 16th--Imp Society keeps his undefeated streak at Ak-sar-ben as he wins the 4-H Stakes.
June 28th--National Toast makes an impressive debut in a 2 year old maiden race as he runs the fastest 5 furlongs of the meet in :58 4/5 seconds.
June 30th--Imp Society wins the President's Cup in 1:42 2/5, the fastest 1 & 1/16 mile time of the meet.
July 4th--20,720 fans attended the July 4th Holiday card and wagered $2,379,691.
July 7th--Misnan wins a 5 1/2 furlong allowance race in 1:05, the fastest time of the meet for the distance.
July 10th--The meets only dead heat for first occurs as Fripline & Tight System cannot be separated after 1 1/16 mile.
July 11th--Ken Jones, three time defending riding champion, rides 5 winners on the card. The most wins by a jockey since 1977.
July 14th--Peaceful River wins the Quivira Stakes. Two-time winner of the Quivira, Bersid, finishes sixth. A total of $150,263 is wagered on Bersid.
July 20th--Super Stacy wins the Lassie Stakes. She returns $204.60 $66.20 and $17.20. Hula Whirl wins a 6 furlong allowance, his 5th win of the meet.
July 21st--Ten Bid, shipped in from Chicago and outlasts Native Satan in an exciting stretch drive to win the $100,000 Ak-Sar-Ben Oaks.
July 24th--O. J. Glass, Jr. saddles 3 winners. The only trainer "triple" of the meet.
July 28th--Timeless Native scores a 1 1/4 length victory in the $150,000 guaranteed Cornhusker Handicap. He becomes the first horse to win three $100,000 plus
Ak-sar-ben races over a two year period (the 1984 Ak-sar-ben Handicap & 1983 Omaha Gold Cup). Axen Now, registers the fastest 1 1/2 mile time of the season (2:34) in a starter Handicap.
August 4th-On Omaha Gold Cup day, Gate Dancer scores an impressive 5 1/2 length victory over Imp Society. He runs the 1 1/8 mile in the fastest time of the meet (1:47 4/5).
The exacta combination (#2-1) returns the lowest price of the season__$5.20. The loss by Imp Society was his first Ak-sar-ben defeat. Energetic King
runs a 1 mile 70 yard allowance race in 1:40 1/5, the fastest meet time for the distance. A crowd of 27,293 wagers $3,185,763. The $3,185,763 handle ranked #5 as most money wagered in Ak-sar-ben history.
August 5th-No one in the smallest crowd of the season (9,193) was able to select all six winners in the Ak-Pic-Six.
August 14th-With a carry over of $219,246 in the Ak-Pic-Six, a crowd of 15,352 attends a Tuesday afternoon card. No one is able to pick all six winners and the carry over to Wednesday, August 15th is a whopping $445,775.
Zippy wins a 6 furlong allowance race in 1:09 1/5. It is the fastest 6 furlong time of the meet, later to be matched by Inebriator (August 18) & Cossatot (August18).
August 15th-Finally the Ak-Pic-Six is won, as 195 people divide up $890,916. Each ticket is worth $4,568.80. The largest Ak-Pic-Six pot of the meet. 17,252 attended the Wednesday card and wagers a record (non-holiday Wednesday)
$2,153,822.
August 17th-Astro's Go Go and Lusive combine for the highest exacta of the meeting, #4-#10 return $1,285.80.
August 18th-Inebriator wins a 6 furlong $30,000 claimimg race; it is his 5th win of the meet. Brinley Brinley is the upset winner of the $100,000 Queen's Handicap. Two-time
defending champion Bersid runs third.
August 25th-Perfidious One opens up the final day's card with a track record time for the 2 mile 70 yard race. He runs it in 3:31 to defeat 7 rivals by
18 lengths, the largest margin of victory for the meeting. (Tuesday Tom will break this and set a new record time: 3:29 1/5 on August 25, 1985). Tim Doocy rides Smartake to victory in the My Juliet Stakes. With the win, it gives him 97 for the meet,
an all time record, breaking the mark set by L. J. Durousseau in 1969. (Tim Doocy will break his own record in 1985 with 122 wins and John L. Lively will break the record and set the all time record of 129 wins in 1986).
